I am a life long resident and was wanting some locations to go search love reading all your post. thanks for any info. p.s. What are the laws about detecting in a national park. Yes it is illegal to hunt in any national park.Wecome to the forum.I've been to Gatlinburg. Not what you'd expect if you've never been there.I wish it wasn't illegal to hunt there(Smoky Mountain National Park),i'm sure there are some great finds to be had there.Your in a very beautiful part of the country, with a lot of rich history behind it,i'm sure you'll find many good areas to hunt. Not many people know that the Smokies are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world and were formed some 200-300 million years ago.Much older than the Rockies which I believe were formed during the Cenozoic period,a mere 40-70 million years ago.My advice would be to talk to older members in your family or in town.Ask about old homes in the area(standing or not) and who lived in them during critical periods in time.Such as the Civil war, great depression,prohibition,etc..Your in relic country, try to take advantage of it.

Hey,

Try this, looking for Memorial Parks, Churches,(anywhere) or residences in the battle area. (get permission) You can go to the library and get some old maps or Google Earth is cool, and Google Maps.

Keep @ it and HH!!
