My dog Bella noticed this first early this morning. I saw it after she jumped off the ground like a jack in the box, cuz she stuck her nose right up to it and it took a strike at her.

That's actually the material they top the trails around here with. It's a mix of small grain crushed gravel to fine sand. They call the stuff "Squeegee Sand" It's pretty much crushed Rocky Mountain alluvium river rock and I'll bet if you panned it down you would maybe even find some nano sized pieces of gold with in it.

That is not a rattlesnake. Looks more like a harmless bullsnake.

It's a harmless Bull Snake. I like to see them around the house, because they eat the mice looking for a way to get in my house. I've seen some pretty big ones sneaking around the foundation of the house looking for mice.
