Just wanted to share this photo of a big rattlesnake trapped in an old well, about 20 feet down. I was standing right next to the well, extracting a date nail from an old railroad tie, when I looked down and saw this. When the rains come in a few weeks, these monsters will be all over the place.

Poor thing. I hope it's not actually trapped in there.

Yet it was, Im afraid. It must have fallen in while going after a rodent or something. I was thinking about trying to throw something in so it could crawl out, but there was nothing long enough around. It was way down there. This was a couple weeks ago, it could still be alive down there.

You have to save that snake. Put down a round rope long enough for it to climb. Snakes are good tasting and taste like chicken and are free food.

A snake will climb a rope? I never thought of that. Ill bring a rope if hes still there next time Im out they way.

Throw him a burrito or something and call it a day.

I have an ex-son in law I'll donate to throw in.... Maybe I'll drop a $100.00 bill down in front of him. He'll go after it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please help the snake out if you can...?

I always thought a snake would NOT cross a jute rope and it was a way of protecting yourself if sleeping out. Is this an old wives tale?

Yes it is...
And as far as "snake season" goes, ours is just starting..
Python hunters can make some serious coin down here.

5 stacks to the biggest kill

Cute little bugger. You'll have to climb down in there and get him out. I never saw many when I lived out there. Once a tiny baby rattler came up on our back porch to sun itself. Call me weird but, I like snakes. They serve a purpose in ridding us of rodents. Seems cruel to some but, nature has a balance. Thanks for the picture.

You don't have to do anything, because if he didn't want to be there he wouldn't be there. And I would like to point out that snakes do not taste like chicken, they taste like snake.

Yes, inquiring minds want to know if the taste thing is from experience.

i have ate rattlesnake. we rolled it in flour and fried it in butter. it really had no taste, it tasted like flour fried in butter.it was flakey like fish, didnt remind me of chicken in any way.

But, snakes are free food. Do not complain.

I'm really pleased this hasn't turned into a "kill em all' discussion.

There are NO "old" wives who have relied on this type of snake protection...

I also like snakes and feel sorry for those critters caught up in man made obstructions. If you have the patience you could tie a dead mouse on some fishing mono and actually catch that snake to pull him out. Let it swollow that mouse and a real good chance he won't let go. Now about what you do after you get him out I would advise caution..ha!
