I was feeling a bit frisky today and the weather was fair. So, I thought
I'd try my new techniques on a cornfield. Those that have followed me
know that stumbling around in a cornfield is not one of my best things.

But, I've been to this field several times and wanted to see if the technique
held for even this super tough place for me to hunt.

As far as me and cornfields go, I can safely say, this was my BEST hunt
on a cornfield! Judging by the finds. Trouble is, my "best" day can't hold a
candle to you relic experts! :)

Here's what I found:

Wheatie on the left, zincoln on the right!
I'll tell ya, after I found these two pennies I was
very happy! I RARELY find a coin of ANY kind here! LOL

You can JUST make out what's left of "CENT" if
you look hard.
It's 23mm & weighs 4.2gr
I suspect it used to be a 2 cent piece. :dontknow:

2016 (62).webp

But, today, this was what kept me interested. I don't usually find a lot of
old flat buttons. The little one impressed me! It's the smallest I've ever found
and it was easily 5 inches deep AND...I found it, here! LOL

This one is in pretty fair shape. It says IMPERIAL STANDARD on the back and
there is some remnant of a design on the front. But, as old as this probably is
and it still has the shank. I like this one the most.

At least Fishy is smiling. :dontknow:

All in all, for me, a VERY good result of my test.
All I have left to try is a beach and that won't be any time soon. ;)

Thanks for peeking!

Those flat buttons have been around a bit. Whatever you're doing is working! Old buttons are as good to find as anything.

All in all looks like some good finds. As long as fishy is happy your in! Flat buttons are an item that were just not the norm for here. They were lucky to have thread and twine to hold their clothes up. Lol! So, a common item for some is uncommon for myself. Congrats

Awesome finds gary, gotta love finding old coppers, I think your right about the 2 cent. Great lot of buttons too!

Nice job on hitting that field. It's hard to tell from these pictures, but the button on the far right looks like maybe it's a spun tombac. Also, US Half Cents were 22-23.5mm too. Depending on how the "cents" looks to you, that could be a toasted Half Cent. Nice work... I'd go hit that place again with flat buttons turning up.

Actually, I'm thinking you're right. Because the two cent piece has CENTS and even though I can't make much out, I believe I can see that there's too much space after the "T" for there to be an "S".

It's in my Ultra Sonic, Muriatic Acid, Electrolysis, microwave cooker. I'll check back after I air the smoke out of the house. ;)

Oh, and about the tombac? I do believe that's correct too. I didn't know that there were ones called "spun".

Yeah, I find them interesting too. I saw where you found one with the same back mark too.
Thanks!

Stay tuned, it might be a half cent.

Thanks!

I would be happy with that hunt
Stumbles in corn
Sort of like, dances with wolves but in corn instead
At least you didn't fall and hurt yourself, we can't have that.
I was in a soybean field today, nothing but headstamps and canslaw for me.

Awesome button hoard and I like the "both working ends" of that .12 gauge slug round! Happy Hunting Whadi! Sub 8-)

Great finds. You definitely have a good location, the relics tell the tale. Great luck and Keep Swinging! !

Thanks, Sub.

I don't know ammo but I suspect that those two ends are just a "few" years apart. ;) LOL

Congrats! Nice cornfield goodies!
You certainly are fine tuning that new senerio system you invented. Nice!
Seems to be working well in all areas. Thats a lesson to us all.

Looks like there maybe a tussel for the shiny shiny!

At lest you didn't use frisky & cornfield in the same sentence.
That may have caused a commotion!:sly:

Thanks, Milady.

Well, you know me, all puns are intentional. ;)

About this technique, it's probably more of me doing things more correctly now than it is anything I've invented. But, it do seem to be working, don't it! ;) LOL

I'll say! And how! :thumbup::eek::)

Me thinks we all should be taking a look at how we search and what can we do to improve on it.

FISHEY TELLING BLINGIE I WANT TO BE SHERIFF ....NICE BUTTONS ....
