SO WORN ~~ EXCEPT THE DATE 1835

[SHERMANVILLE ILLINOIS]

....Temp in the 30’s late this morning; no wind
so it was comfortable. Just had to get out
for a bit.

Decided to hit a local location near a canal.
Thought I’d walk up a short road that I have
hunted in the past. Was going to use the
road just to get to another area.

When I got near the road, someone had been
working. Don’t know what they are planning,
or if it is just from a snow plow, but the top
was skimmed. Said to myself, “Self, no reason
to go further up the road.”



Found a few clad, and a mess of junk. Muddy
digging. Photo of barges passing on the canal.



Few more clad, and one wheat. Was getting
ready to call it a day and bang, it was at the
bottom of the hole. Only about 2 ½ - 3 inches
down. Was thinking I got myself some silver,
Mercury, Roosevelt. I was not expecting what
I found.

Not much left, except the date big and bright.
Not a beautiful coin, not worth much, but it’s
mine. My Capped Bust.

Nice little story and great find and pics too! must ask 1 question. What is the oldest possible U.S.A coin you can find there? Or what are the most rarests coins there wich every treasure hunter wishes to found in U.S.A? I have been reading TN like little over a year and this thing is still mystery.

That is a wonderful find Sherm,when I saw that road scraped off I knew something good was going to pop out. Love the way that canal runs right by there,must have been quite a bit of activity around there in the past,hope u have a chance to get back out there before they cover that road with pavement as it looks like they are planning to...HH
