Nice. Lots of people used to have these metal cards imprinted with their social security number, and use them in place of their paper card. It probably dates to the 50s or 60s.

No date that I can see. Yes, it was found in my native county. The last name is a common one, I'll try to find some relatives.

they weren't issued by the government. this was a 'novelty' type item that could be purchased through mail order or other means. I remember a guy used to set up at our local flea market and make them back in the 70's

You can try the name in the Social security death index. If the person has passed their name should be there.

I have my fathers metal SS card he died in 1956 so his would pre date that.

Cool find! They still make them at engraving stores. Not sure if they look like that though.

no return yet. the fellow I thought was a relative was not. but he knew him, and told me where to find the man's kids. will try again Monday. the cardholder would be a hundred yrs old if he was still living.

Nice find, I remember these, ,they been around off and on for a long time, glad too hear you're trying to locate this man relatives, I'm sure they would love to have it!!!

But whatever do don't let that card get into the hands of any politicians, they would have him voting again!!
