Hey guys I found this last year and not until last night did someone point out to me that it had the possibility of being a coin. So here is what I know about it:

If you look close you can see an eagles head, with the wings, and then on the bottom it looks like a sunburst. Its almost exactly
(34MM) and it weighs on 7 grams and is extremely thin. There is no visable spot on the back for a shank to have been when you hold it in your hand.

Any Ideas :dontknow:

I know this is an old post so please dont shoot me for bringing it back up, but several people asked if I would post updated pics so upon request here they are

There's different edge designs. Would be a great find if you could match one up.

They are George Washington buttons. It's worth taking a close look! I think what you believe is a head might not be. (meaning your pics are upside down)

The sunburst is under the eagle not on top though. Those arent GW inaugural button are they?

I dont know its light like a button at only 7 grams but also looks like a coin, but the weight has got me, most larger coins I thought were around 14-17 grams

I'm still thinking button. What's that measured in mm? Over 30mm? If so, I still think that has a shot at being a GW. The edge design and lack of detail on the other side also hints at it being a button. (on top of it being thin and large in diameter)

Re: Coin or Button?

From what I can see in the pic it's either like Iron patch said a GW inaugural or an early diplomats button or something like that. I've dug a lot of early thin buttons that show almost no sign of where a shank had been and with the size I would say it's a button and not a coin or token

Do you know if the diplomatic buttons tend to be that big? I have seen maybe one or two posted but can't remember. I guess Alberts would tell the story.

Well that's definitely in the range of a large Colonial button and GW type. It's an interesting find, just too bad there's so little detail.

Re: Coin or Button?

I checked and the diplomatic buttons in Albert's are 23 and 25mm. So I guess it's not one of them. S

Well if you can convert the 1 9/16"- 1 5/8" to mm that is what it is. Its just a tad bigger than 1 9/16 but not quite to 1 5/8
