Hi I am not new to the web site, but it is the first time I tried posting anything! Some of the things are obvious, others not so much. Please help me identify any of these items. Also if there is anything of value I would appreciate knowing that too! I have more items If you are bored and want to help a newbie out!

Also on several of the tools I found, axes, hoes, and more... any idea how to tell how old some of these things are? The viking age and the old rusted ones from the early 1900's look the same to me.

I thank you for your help, if this is the wrong place for these things or if I did something wrong here, please let me know!
Thanks again!

They can be seen at these links: https://picasaweb.google.com/103781748494025869833/TEXASFINDS
(The first one is an album all cleaned up, only front and back photo of most items)

https://picasaweb.google.com/103781748494025869833/PastMetalDetectingFinds (things I found in Texas, California and Arizona last year)

Some stories about some of these finds can be seen on my blog: Two of them can be linked to here, otherwise just look around the blog, there are many others too! http://rvingdog.blogspot.com/2011/02/this-world-is-small-small-place.html

Re: Need Help Identifying Several Things

Hi, and welcome to the forum, The "nail" with the star on it is a rivet, most likely copper. yours doesn't look like it was ever actually used since it's not deformed. The long piece that you've marked "D1" seems to be part of a strap hinge. The ring in the second picture I believe is some kind of buckle and maybe horse related, I'm sure I've seen one like it before.

Welcome to the forum
The top right item is a bridle bit, the round item pic 2 is a saddle cinch buckle. HH :icon_thumright:

Re: Need Help Identifying Several Things

Hi all and thank you for the information!
Broken knee: Thank you for the info on the bridal, I found one similar on line, a lot newer of course, but it is the same item! Photo below of what I found.

NOLA_Ken:, thank you for the information and the GREAT photo!!! You are absolutely correct it is copper, with all the rain the past two days, I finally got around to cleaning some of this stuff!

bigcypresshunter: It could be a trace carrier horse buckle on the right, but since I failed to label the photos in an easy way to refer to them... I am not sure if you mean the last buckle on the second photo. I will be more careful in the future.

As far as the D1 being ," seems to be part of a strap hinge." or "An old door hinge strap with no nail holes" again, could be. It is fairly heavy and it has little lines on it like some kind of a metal file. I will try to take a better photo and put it on here.

Thank you all again!!! I will do better on my photos and work harder on the descriptions in the future.

Its the far right on the 4 buckle picture (What Kind of buckles are these?). Its a horse buckle of some kind. I have a pic on my main computer that is in repair. The large top item reminds me of a fish skinner I once had with the thumbscrew broken off on the left, but I doubt it. What does it say on the little buckle to the left?

Re: Need Help Identifying Several Things

You mention the item with lines like a metal file. It probably was a file at one time and the blacksmith used it to make something else. I have found files forged into odd shapes too . It's hard to tell what they were used for. Only the blacksmith knows and he's not talking now. The items you found are what I find at logging camps from the 1870's to early 1900's

Re: Need Help Identifying Several Things

kuger, I will post several more things, just to give you a chance to beat the pros! LOL

Thank you for the information! That is awesome. I love finding really old things!

bigcypresshunter: Thank you for clarifying which buckle you were referring too. The Photo below gives more info on that other buckle.

lumbercamp: thank you for the info on the file and the idea on the logging camp thing. I have been in piney woods area in Texas, so that would make perfect sense. I have include a better photo of the file thing as well.

Thanks again all! cdsieg

Re: Need Help Identifying Several Things

Shirley Make appears to be a high quality mark on buckles made by the President Suspender Company in Shirley, Mass.

Here is a SHRLEY buckle found on the Freindly Forum. http://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=67342
