Charl ,thank you for taking your time to explain "is it a rock that is natural or has man altered it. I agree with you that it is a thing you know without a whole lot of thinking and I believe I have that ability. Occasionally I have to wait until I get home, wash it and then look at it under bright light with a magnifier,I find as many artifacts by feeling it under the dirt with my hand as I find by sight. This particular piece looks like a uniface hafted scraper or possibly a Heavy Duty uniface point, tend to lean toward scraper. I must say that pics I put on here, taken with my iPad ,never show the detail that can be seen in person. I promise you this rock has been worked by man,the material is rough and may have been in a fire at one time but the edges, point and stem have been worked, the left side was a natural beveled shape and needed less work, almost none but needed a few strikes ,the right side took much more work,I suppose an effort to make both sides have a similar angle on bevel. The stem is no doubt snapped, the two channels on the back ,at the stem, reduced stem for hafting.. I have been at this for a long time,I work outside as a Registered Land Surveyor since 1976 so I have picked up millions of rocks and 100's of artifacts,I totally agree with your explanation of explaining, I have at least three friends that couldn't find one in a museum. I really believe if you could hold this piece you would agree. I totally respect your opinion,we don't know what we don't know,so I ask or read ,etc. Sent you a few pics to demonstrate that I have had a lot of experience, now I will occasionally post a ugly just for fun. I hope you are not offended ,I see your name on site a lot and I do value your opinion,so please don't kick me to the curb.....HH rls2040.
