Some Kid Didn't Give a Damn About His Trumpet Playing Band

Some kid probably got an A$$ whupping when he told his parents he lost this trumpet mouthpiece. These things are heavy and not cheap. It's stamped as "Vincent Bach Corp, Model 7C". I found it in a middle-school yard today. It rang up like a quarter. Since it wasn't found on the playing field he probably lost it during marching practice. I think it's silver plated. I haven't seen one of these posted on T-Net yet.

Since it was in the dirt about 6" deep there's a possibility that the mouthpiece has been in the ground since 1935. What I'll probably do is contact the Music Director and see if he could use it as a loaner for a current student who has lost their own and is waiting for a replacement.

yeah my guess is that the kid who lost it is probably a grown man now! i played trumpet as a kid and these mouthpieces can be replaced for about 30 or 40 bucks. that's a good idea about the music director. it could probably be useful as a loaner to a kid who left theirs at home that day.

My Dad was in the US Navy band and marched in Eisenhower's inaugural parade.

I still have his trombone mouthpiece. I had possession of it years ago, and it disappeared. Did not know what happened to it.
I was going through some boxes in his tool shed, and found it again. Guess he had it the whole time. :)

Maybe you should consider contacting the band teacher and see if someone lost a mouthpiece. Most kids in the band are good students who make good grades or they aren't allowed to participate in band.

Interesting the way someone assumed it was a "he" that lost the mouthpiece and not a young girl. But then, visualizing a young girl getting a so called a$$ whippin' may not be as funny, is it?

Well said. I think the next person that loses a 1,000 dollar ring deserves an A$$ Whippin' too. :P

That's a great idea--the piece is only silver plated, if that much--and it isn't much use to you unless you play.

That would earn an Honorable Mention if folks took all their dug mouthpieces in to local schools.  They ain't cheap--and it would be a good thing for the kids, as well as our hobby (might have someone on your side if they ever wanna make the school "off limits" to MDing).  :)

Took mine to donate a few years ago--a baritone horn mouthpiece which would've cost close to 50 bucks new.

Best Wishes,
