Hi All,
I was out hunting an old 1850-60's site and found a pretty cool button.
It's about 1" or the size of a quarter.
Two piece, brass front and steel back.
The front in slightly concave with what looks like maybe applied design.
The design is a bird sitting on a branch of a flower with an umbrella over it's head.
I can't make anything out on what little there is left of the back.
If any button experts out there has any info on this it would be great to know.

It would be a Victorian era button and the date of that house site you hunted sounds about right.. Victorian era was from 1837-1901 and i think this button fits in the 1860s-1880s time frame -maybe more around the civil war era like similar civilian buttons of this kind dug around 1850s-1860s house sites.. The Jackson era was when Andrew Jackson was in office which was mid 1820s til when he left office in 1837, that era saw lot of neat odd type of artifacts like "Jacksonian buttons" and dome shape kind of buttons, etc. I don't think this button is from the Jackson era Imo..but, the Victorian era. Neat find...
