Well, with beautiful temps today around 9 degrees...I just had to get out! I had 2 hours of detecting time, and I made out pretty well.
I FINALLY pulled some silver out of a farm field. Not quite as old as I'd like...but I'll take it for sure!
1842 Six Pence (no, I didn't do the damage)
1842 Half Penny
I made some great button finds today as well!
Got this beautiful 1812 officers pattern "commissariat staff" button...backmark is "Charles Jennens, London" I am surprised at the amount of gilt left on it. The picture does this button no justice. For some reason my camera goes wacky on these lined background gilted buttons.
Not long after I dug up this British 1812 period "Royal Sappers & Miners" button. "I. McGowan, London" backmark...perfect intact shank.
I also dug up a British artillery ball button! It's huge, and has a long intact shank on it. I think this one dates to the 1870's perhaps...but I could be wrong!? Backmark appears to be "T. Maitland & Co." Anyone know how old this is??
Other finds include a pewtwer spoon portion with makers marks, several flat buttons and another ball button, thimble, large brass whatsit.
I'm curious as to what the lead piece is. Looks like a chess piece or some sort of stamp. Any ideas??
Thanks for looking!

And I always welcome company. It's nice to share the hobby with others.
