i admit im still a complete noob(since dec 2011), but i found this 2 days ago in a cellar hole at an old home site. im not exactly sure the time period on the house, but it was taken over for camps during the civil war. im not sure what its made of, the face is corroded and im not sure how to try and clean that off without damaging it. its about an inch and a half in diameter. im not sure if im forgetting anything, but if there is anything else needed from me to help ID just let me know.

Looks like the loop on the back is broken and misshapen. I think it is an old horse bridle rosette.
