Slipped in to a little colonial spot today after work...yes...work on saturday! ahh...anyways, the last time I was here I dug a big handful of colonial "dandy" buttons...( I threw in the designed dandy I found the other day into this pile of buttons). I just knew there would be some coppers here. After I found a few buttons I got a scattered signal, I dug and found a large button....stood back up checked my hole...penny/dime signal on the DFX....what could it be? A little crusty green disc! At first the KGII Bust was clear as can be through the crust....but after cleaning I ruined it....I think its a counterfeit. It's a flakier material. You can still make out the bust and GIUS, I'm pretty sure It's a Half Penny counterfeit. Anyways, I had fun. Thanks for checking these "ugly" finds out.

Some can be so bad that even water will kill what's left.... as you have now seen. Gotta be more close! Probably a good chance it's counterfeit but looking like that it won't matter. :-X

Thanks for all the replies, I know this copper is toasted and not easy to look at, but was my first KGII. So i'm happy, can't wait to get back and hit this site some more.

Sniffy,
Please take another look at this one.
The details are dim ...
but very distinct.
I think this is a fugio cent.

Don't care what you say ... a chain cent is always a good find.

I dont' think so, when it was fresh out of the dirt I could see all the details very clear on the obverse....and when it dried out in my pouch and I took another look....it was even clearer. However, I destroyed this coin cleaning it. I literally wiped away all the detail with a qtip.I hope your not looking at the designed Dandy button and comparing it to a fugio cent, they do have similar characteristics.
