This house has been on my bucket list to metal detect for sometime. I would drive by thinking it was loaded with silver coins & Indian head penny. Well today I got permission to metal detect it and it wasn't what I thought it would be. I did find a 1937 Buffalo nickel . This is the first Buffalo nickel I found with a date. I also found a 1941 silver quarter and 2 1958 wheats.
Often for me permissions do not turn out to be what I expect. Especially on older properties. The ground has often been regraded and the dirt has been moved or new dirt was brought in. But that's ok when permissions don't turn out to be what I expect. I still have fun doing this hobby I love doing. I also brought my bicycle with me as a plan B if I didn't get the permission I would go for a bike ride.

I know the feeling when permissions aren't what you expect. I've had several of those. It's frustrating, but like you said it's still fun to be detecting and outdoors. Nice finds though!

That still looks like a cool site. I'm glad you got to detect it - and hey, a silver and a buffalo is a good hunt in my book!

That's not shabby. What were you expecting?
The Buffalo nickel & quarter were nice finds And I'm glad I got to metal detect this property . But for an older property the ground was clean and not to much else could be found. It could have already been metal detected by somebody else. It's all farm land around the house and the I think the dirt could have been moved around. I metal detected a 1706 house the other day and didn't find anything and the grounds keeper told me that all new dirt was put in around the house. So you never no what was done on properties or who was there before you to metal detect.

I'd bet if the grass was mowed pretty short and you had the time to search it really well, there's probably some other goodies hiding there

I always assume places like that have been hit hard in the years past by detectorist. I figure if I think it’s an awesome spot to detect, everyone else and their brother has had the same thought. You never know though and that’s why we continue doing what we do!

Often the places we least expect tend to be those most productive.
The amount of times I've coveted an area, managed to get on only to find an iron infested dumping ground or just nothing at all.
My best most productive permission is a gnarly unattractive looking meadow that was forced on me due to the surrounding fields becoming unavailable to me due to the grass getting too long. I was even reluctant to bother so low where my hopes and expectations of it. But my word how glad I am I tried. I've recovered relics and coins dating back to the 12th century.

Your right some places you can’t wait to go just to be let down, sometimes places you don’t think will be great can be some of the best too
Yup, I'm learning to not trust my instincts. I found a Gold coin once in part of a field I only walked over to make way for the farmer and his collie to herd the sheep out the way. I realised then I'd probably be better at this if I was blindfolded rather than choosing my own path.
Bit dangerous as well as annoying and also maybe a bit weird so I've never actually tried that particular strategy.

Decent hunt though! Once I was travelling and stayed with a friend who lives in Mississippi. He has an older home built in the 1940’s, on a busy street. I had my detector with me so I detected his yard. I found 8-10 silver Mercs, a couple of silver Truman dimes, a silver Japanese coin, and several silver Washington quarters. It was my best hunt ever for coins. You just never know.

Probably a lot more than 4 coins, but if I was a betting man, I bet it's been hunted before... 50+ years of metal detectors and a place like that is a beacon for any and all ground hunters... I've been there and done that....

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

it looks like an interesting location. The house is pretty neat place.
I agree with others there may be more there - somewhere.

The go to saying is “That place has been hunted out” that’s not in reality a true statement. As many on here can attest to, “No site is ever fully hunted out”!
