Sore back recovery tips?

Best thing you do is a lot of stretching of those muscles. Depending on how
bad mine is hurting, I use anything from a couple Tylenol and some muscle rub
all the way up to a pain numbing patch along with a couple muscle relaxers.

One stretching exercise I do several times a day is not only very simple,
but it really helps the tendons that begin at the lower back and cross the
points of the hips.

Sit upright in a chair, and cross one leg over the other. If the right leg is
on top, then cup your hands around your right knee, and while gently pulling
it to the left you should also be pushing your torso gently to the right to bring
tension to the tendons. You'll feel it from your back all the way to your hips.

Other trick is, once you get those muscles back in shape try to keep them
in shape. Not always easy during winter months when it's cold and nasty
out, but doing exercises indoors will make the next trip a whole lot easier.

Tequila use to work for me but not any more.

This works

Men don't take baths but I hear they work great on sore muscles. ;)

Or a hot tub if you have access to one.

just keep diigging

I have a tens unit that I swear by

What kind of Tens unit do you have aWare? I am looking for something like this for my husband for his back pain. His back goes out occasionally and he has a lot of pain. He is a mechanic. I was hoping it would help, but shopping for one is a bit overwhelming. Thanks!

A good soaking in a bath or hot tub followed by some aspirin (or tylenol) and a couple of caps of Valerian Root which you can get at most health food places. Even WallyWorld has it. Do that right before bed and you'll wake up ready to rock n roll.

ICE IT many times during the day!

Sauna to relax--then-jacuzzi bubbles to relax muscles more and get blood flowing to the hurt areas to reduce inflamation and finally a few shots a Jose to end the day and make the pain go away. If you take it easy for a day or two always helps from getting overzealous, but what's a fella a goner do when the fever drives away common sense?? Mining is akin to any sport as mostly in the winter can't do it and those particuliar muscle groups weaken prior to mining season so exercise to strenghten prior to mining season to eliminate tightness/strenghten and firm'm up---John

I like all the great suggestions. Liquid therapy sounds like the best place to start.

The stronger your core muscles are the less back pain and less likely you are to injure it. Take a look at how you dig and pan you may, need to adjust your body mechanics. I am an orthopedic nightmare, and every time I get sore or injured its because I've let my core go. Wintertime- I bought an ab lounger on craigslist for 30 bucks. In the evenings while watching the tube I'll do ten or twenty reps on the lounger during the commercials. Doesn't take long at all to feel the difference, hard part is sticking with it.

It doesn't stop the pain, but after a couple of shots you don't care

Most of the above and REST. (I think the Mescal would make my head hurt more than my back lol)
After a lifetime in construction I concluded I needed 3 days rest to help my back. Whether I ignored it for 3 weeks or not I still ended up taking 3 days rest.
Stretching and good body mechanics are good for prevention and heat helps the pain. Those bags filled with wheat that you microwave are great.
Failing all that you might try finding a younger body you can mentor. :icon_thumright:

yoga. cant emphasise getting good core strength and stretch hamstrings, pirifomus muscles as well as lunges.

Did palates reformer...great core, strengthening without injury!
