This weekend a mini cold front came down the Florida coastline bringing some nice erosion to some of my favorite older beach sites. Places that over the last few months I have been finding relics from the 1830s Seminole indian wars.
I got off to a good start and found a few musket balls and a nice old lead bag seal at one spot so I returned to the site a little later to search around some exposed palm tree roots with a small Sunray S-5 sniper coil on my Sovereign.
I got a nice sounding signal between the roots at the base of the cut and I was hoping for a piece of gold and guessed correctly as there on top of the sand pile lay a gold cross. My acid test kit only goes to 22K so I had to go to the jewelers who told me it was a 24K. Not sure of the age of the cross, it could be modern or it could be old, it is nice and heavy, unmarked and it looks like it probably came off something. Maybe it was attached to a piece of wood, a box or a leather belt, your guess is as good as mine.
