Hello again! I went back to my 1793 chain cent spot with a friend this morning thinking maybe some early American silver. Almost immediately after we got there I had a nice solid 80,81 on the machine. My buddy was only 20 foot away and came over. After digging a nice large plug I couldn't believe what we saw, a hammered silver. Never did I EVER think I would find one of these and I am so glad I had someone to share the experience with! Also are there any thoughts on the coin with the X struck in it? Between us both we found nine coins (most appear to be king George types) and 25 buttons today.

Can someone help with a date and location of the silver?

Thanks for looking,
Don

think toasted got it about right...congratulations on "getting hammered"...

To say that you're on a roll would certainly be an understatement. You're on the all time roll of rolls. :hello2::headbang::occasion14: The metal detecting gods have certainly cast their light on you. Keep up the great work. Love the finds..... and the post. Congrats!

your site is on fire!
the only way to put it out is with dirt....one shovel full at a time...you'll put it out eventually but what fun you will have in the meantime
best of luck and great finds so far ,keep it up!

Sweet, Sweet, Silver.
Time to bring in a sifter

Very very nice. I can hardly wait to see what you find next.

I agree. 1600s for cobs like that. Great find!

Congrats on the old silver and other nice finds

Great finds Don. I'm sure you're gonna dig that site clean

The cob reflects, in a fairly clear manner, the last three letters (in Latin) of the ruler; namely 'lvs'; perhaps even 'olvs'. The only ruler during this period whose name ended with those three or four Latin letters was either Carlos II or Carlos III. If the coin is from the year XX88 it might be C II(1665-1700) or from CIII (1759-1788) BUT, pillars and waves cob coins from Potosi were only minted (IMO) from 1652 through 1773; so the complete date (if XX88 is correct) has to be a Carlos II (Charles) 1688 cob coin.
Don.....
