Interesting copper item from the old farm house. At first thought tip of toy gun, but now not sure and leaning towards spout of sorts? Any input appreciated.

I am not sure, but it may be a stand-off sleeve for a lightning rod ground wire. :icon_scratch:

With an open seam like that, I don't think it is a spout.

The shape (not quite round) and the machine/file marks make me think it was some kind of home-made repair item.

Very well could be a home-made repair item, but for which application? Seems pretty small for ground wire :dontknow:

Some of the braided copper wire rope was only 1/2 inch in diameter.

You may be right on this one creskol. What's the little hole for?

It was a mounting hole that wire passed through to strap it to an insulator. This is sort of how I envision it.

Spike, I love objects like this! I'm not positive what it is either, but assuming some of these were sunk well into the stock rather than exposed, and considering how close the hole is to the tube, is it possible that this was a ramrod guide (ramrod pipe) with the forward set with one pin and the back tunneled into the stock. http://www.horsesoldier.com/catalog/R11446.JPEG

I think it's a cut piece of the longer guide.
