Spur From the Chisholm Trail......My first.... !!!!UPDATED!!!! Spur ID'd!!!!!!!

I'm posting this in Today's Find even though it was found this weekend because I know there are several experts on this Forum.....I've posted it already in the Club hunts forum for all the folks at the CTH hunt to see.... Now it's your turn.....I'd like to appeal to the Relic hunters out there. I know there are folks out there that have been relic hunting for years and surely have found lots of Spurs. If you veterans of relic hunting have any info on the Spur please let me know.
Went to Calwell, KS this weekend for a wonderful hunt with a group from Tnet that make it a point to get together at least once a year....I assure you it's more of a family reunion than it is a competive hunt. That's the caliber of folks at our hunts. Anyway, after the main hunts of the weekend our host, Burdie and Stoney took us to one of there spots that was on the Chisholm Trail. I won't get into the history of the CT as most of us are history buffs and know all we can know. We only hunted a short while and some nice items were found. Burdie himself found two Indian head pennies within short time. Some other nice relics were found as well so that ought to tell you what a good site this is. As I said, this is my first Spur. Burdie said that it is one of the most ornate spurs he's ever seen. Texas connection thought that it may be Mexican in origin. I haven't cleaned it up yet as I am still excited about the find and can't stop looking at it.
Thanks to all that look. As I said, if anyone has any info or comments about it let me know.

Thanks greatly,

ridge_runner

As far as the "Rowdy Bunch" goes, it was great seeing ya'll again and hunting next to you!!!! Thanks for all the wonderful replies. I will not take anything away from anyone at that hunt. There was no top find. We all had a top notch item that came out of the ground. We have to repeatedly thank our gracious hosts for the hunt.........Burdie and Stoney!!!!!!
As far as the spur goes, like I said I'm just happy to have one in my collection of relics now. It was awesome how Earl researched and found info and a pic for me. Thanks again Earl.....And thanks to all the others that had valuable info to add. This is a great web forum. Not only for starting friendships and finding life time huntings partners but also for folks to help others with research and what have you. One thing you can always depend on here on the forum is, if you haven't found it I bet someone else has and they can help......

Thanks Tnetters,

RR

Hey ridge, I always heard that some of the actual spur part were made of silver! Go back to Caldwell and find that piece! Nice item there.

Great find and a welcome addition for display.

Usually mexican spurs are not cast or have cast parts, but are in themselves range from utilitarian to dressy ornate.

I have several mexican spurs each of which were chased with silver over smithed steel....rusty but can still see some of the remaining silver. Most have rowels that are about 2 inches in diameter.

Also have 2 complete sets that are solid silver, tooled and are quite ornate.

Re: Spur From the Chisholm Trail......My first.... !!!!UPDATED!!!! Spur ID'd!!!!!!!

Thanks all.....Hey Texan Connection, I appreciate the kudos...Earl did me a great favor didn't he.
Get this, I emailed one of the largest distributor of spurs in the country. A business that's been around since before the turn of the century. The owner is also supposed to be one of the leading experts on spurs. This is what he emailed me back:

only think you got here is iron made spur somebody made it in out of tractor parts. . value good luck

Goes to show you what they know....He probably didn't even look at my email or the pics! Earl did the ID'ing and was right on.....That's why I like Tnet. Folks don't mind helping you out and even when they don't know something they still say something nice about your find. True hunters camaraderie!!!
