St. Patrick's Day Find -- Green Point

Hi, Everyone!

Found your forum a few days ago but was having trouble posting images.

Now I think I have it down!

I live in Northern California (Sonoma County) and it's difficult to find other hunters that live around here online. I noticed most of your posts here are from the Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio, etc. areas but thought I'd share anyway in hopes someone who is much more well-versed on local artifacts might take an interest in what I found.

I found the small point below on St. Patrick's Day last year on a hill above where we live near Cloverdale. It had been kicked up by a gopher and was laying on top of his "tailings pile". (I thought the fact that it was green was cool -- considering what day it was! )

I could find almost no information on which tribes were in my specific area, though. It seems that this area hosted at least 3 different ones in different time-periods.

One "ear" is broken off but, other than that, it's a neat little find (I thought, anyway) -- and SHARP! Whoa boy, is it SHARP!

Wow cool color and nice find,it mite be a triangle type hard to tell, without the base ID is hard to do, but someone might be able to help you, Hello from Ohio

Nice lil point, shame its a snapped base though. Looks sharp, love those serrations.

That is certainly some pretty stuff. You do not see color that bright too often.

Hi, Molly and Chuck! Thanks for making me feel so welcome here.

Yeah, Molly... I was disappointed by the missing part of the base, too... Actually, though, when you look at it up-close, not as much of the base is missing as it seems in the photo. You can extrapolate how long the center part was (the part that was "hafted" to the shaft) and, really not that much of it is missing. That one "ear" missing, though, is sad.

It was the color that even made me notice it at all! I'm used to working in wholesale and retail nurseries and, as I walked by, I thought "oh, it's a shard of a green plastic pot" (something I'm used to seeing a LOT). But, then, it struck me that I was up on top of the highest hill for about a mile around here and that there'd NEVER been any kind of house or anything on that hill (so a piece of plastic nursery pot would be WAY out of place!) So, I turned around and went back. Good thing I did cuz, when I picked it up, I could tell exactly what it really was!

Some of my friends insist, however, that "the little people" (Saint Patrick's type) left it there! LOL!

i would say small thin bifurcate, i have found some that have that shape with bifurcate base, like a leccroy

Around here people call little points like that war points or birdpoints from the late woodland period. Not so sure about your point but I would guess it to be 800 to 1500 AD. Nice material, maybe you should get a digger and go back to that spot and see if there is a pot of gold.
