"Star" One of a kind RW or CW attachement

Hey folks! I had posted this attachement next door in the "what is it " room. I just recieved an email back from Dwayne Davis at Lost and found relics. He has got a great site you should see. This is the best Id we could come up with. The attachement was dug at my 1700,s site where a skirmish must have occured judging by the artifacts found there. Here is a copy of Dwayne's comment. I thought you would like to see it. Mike---------------------------------------------------------------------COOL, The star button was probably a personal item a soldier would have made to attach to his collar or Kepi and most likely represented Mississippi or Texas. That my friend is a one of a kind relic. Also thanks for showing it to me and checking out my web site. I suggest you send in a pic of it to American Digger Mag. and get it published under Just Dug.

In my opinion which may be small in this huge universe of professionals( quote un quote) the star device has been found more in CW camps as I have found a couple myself and know that this was not uncommon for a Mississippi boy or a Texas boy to show his pride in his state and wear a star. "But" we will never know for sure where the star originated that you found and could be RW but I've never encountered any item like that to have been found in a RW site. Dwayne , Lost and found relics..VA.

Re: "Star" One of a kind CW attachement

I have to add, this is one interpretation, & if 'one of a kind' its easy to make up any opinion on date & function. I would be looking for harder evidence of its use. It does have a decent age to it & might be even older than CW (in my opinion).

I agree CRU, I have found Revolutionary war buttons there too. So, It is safe to say it could be RW.. Thank you! Mike

No idea on the age but hope it can be traced to a great moment in history :icon_sunny:

Some wise comments, Crusader.

The good news is that this will be likely published in American Digger. It will be viewed by many people, which will perhaps create some interest in pinning down its function or purpose.

It may also be that similar examples will come to light as a result.

Looks like a Texas star, CW era to me.

Keep safe...

awesome star! Keep us posted! I would submit a question with a picture of the star to western and easter treasures. Theres a guy who helps out with the magazine and answers a bunch of questions on random items. :)
