I spent a few days exploring Real del Catorce fifty three years ago. It is truly a place beyond words.
You made some great finds.

Mexican coins with the designation 'granos'/dineros' became obsolete (with the exception noted below) in 1863; therefore, your coin most likely predates 1864. If the diameter is 20mm, it's part of a 1 real coin; 27mm=2Rs and 39mm=8Rs.
Assuming the coin was minted in SLP, the mint date range for this 'tajo' coin would be between 1831 and 1862 for 1R, 1929 and 1863 (exceptions exist in 1868 and 1869) for a 2R; and between 1837 and 1864 (with exceptions also in '68 and '69). The SLP mint opened in 1827 and closed in 1893.

No metal detecting.
It was a 6 month, 20,000km education adventure. I had read "Unknown Mexico" A 1903 book about Lumholtz's 5 year long exploration of Mexico and decided I wanted to go see the Pre-Columbian ruins for myself. At a map store in San Diego I bought the best maps of Mexico available and plotted a route that went from one ruin to the next.
I then readied the old benz for off road camping and talked a friend into coming along.
We camped out every night and crossed your beautiful and friendly country many times. After reaching Tulum we headed back north, stopping at El Catorce on the way home. Fuel was only 6 cents per gallon.

The most striking thing about Real del Catorce were the hundred of abandon building sand there seemed to be only a dozen people in the town.
Your photos and detecting story brought back many memories of better times.

Deal! I'm ready. Just need to dust the cobwebs off the benz.
I will bring as many bottles of the hard cider I make from 165 year old apple trees that will fit into my backpack.
Or, perhaps we meet at the old distillery in Bacanora, Son. I was there before it was a legal operation. Could be a good detecting place. Surely many things were lost after a few tragos. All we lost was our sense of direction for a few hours.
