I have been watching this subject for some time. I hope that they can get a first generation going. I may not see it in my life time if they do it the traditional way. They are going to have to breed out the host elephant. But if you keep pulling the dna from each litter and re introducing it in time you should have an almost pure animal. Of course it could suffer the traits of many inbred animals at first. I hope science can pull this one off. What would be great is to find a frozen Bull mammoth with his goods but the odds of that are slim to none. Thanks for the swift read Uni.

But if they keep doing it with more donor specimens than just one, who knows ?
It's not like they're all that rare. The Explorer's Club had part of a frozen one for dinner back around 1908, and a guy in Russia was using a mummified baby one as an attraction for his store in Siberia, so they're out there turning up.
Mostly a mammoth is still better than none !

Supposedly I ate some at a exclusive wild game dinner as a child. It could have been just elephant or racoon for all I know. The trick from what I have been following is getting from an animal dna that has not degraded. If they are getting it from hair folicles or molars just from one they are doing good.You still have to seperate that Dna from each one. Its complicated and beyond my scope of expertise. In theory its not far removed from an elephant so I think it can be done. Its like turning a Bull dog into a wolf . Same species with diff genetic traits.

Way back in 1985 my artifact huntin' buddy showed me a similar article. The Russkies had found a frozen mammoth and had A.I. a female elephant. Urban legand I think. It will be along time before you see a mammoth walking around on this earth.
On a lighter note both of us were sitting in a meeting with about 10 other people. The V.P. of manufacturing was chewing us out about something. He used the phrase "We have a mammoth problem here". My buddy and I both looked at each other and smiled. We hadn't seen any mammoths around the plant causing problems.

whats the problem? Mammoths !Yes TnM....
Mammoth=HUGE......We were having trouble making a part and he ment we have a "HUGE" problem. He just used the word mammoth instead of huge and we both caught it.
We both thought it was funny and I don't think the other people caught it.
