Every weekend since middle of May, I have been finding bits and pieces of gold at garage sales. They are scrappy pieces like thin kinked necklaces and bracelets, thin flat light charms, one earring, etc.. I even bought a 18k child bracelet that was bent for a dollar. I ended up getting $96 from the scrap jeweler. Total in all with 10k and 14k was $612. Not bad for 2 months.
I did keep some of the gold. Here are just a few pieces; from right to left
* 14k white gold eternity cross with gold chain - $3
* 14k 49ers pendant - $1 (the lady running the garage told me it was gold too)
(weighs 3.9 g) signed on back - its Michael Anthony
I added a 14k chain to it that I got last year at garage sale for $2.
*18k chain - $1. (weighs 5.9 g)

~ I was at a flea market a couple of weeks ago and this silver basket caught my eye. I figured it was plated but I checked anyway. I was surprised to see "sterling" marked on bottom. I walked up to the lady and held it up and asked how much? I held my breath with anticipation. She said $8.
I was sooo excited and happy to hear that price! The hallmarks are very clear on the bottom of basket.
*Basket weighs 19 oz.
Handle moves up and down.

~ I believe this is a "Bride Basket"

>> Does anyone know how much these baskets go for ? I would think it's more valuable than just scrap. I wouldn't scrap it. It's too nice to scrap.

Great score! That sterling basket was a steal at $8.00. It’s times like that when I can’t pull my money out fast enough and not start giggling like a school kid. Well done!!

You might find a buyer over melt for the basket, but it's much slower money. I usually end up just taking quick cash money and looking for the next pick. If you bought it for $8, easier to let it go quickly.. Post it up on feebay with a buy it now at melt x 1.5, maybe you'll catch an offer. Good luck!

i found a 2 1/2 oz 18K neck chain at a sale for $2 I find the charms all the time Its amazing how people don't value gold. Its almost like they get tired of it and think that they bought jewelry that has no scrap value? I also buy copper plates pots platters and flatware for pennies. It scraps at $3 a pound.

I used to watch Harcore Pawn and think if only I could find a gold neck chain like Les wears around his neck.
Wow, 18k is harder to find, let alone a heavy neck chain. Great score on that one!
I also would love to find a nice size diamond ring at a garage sale.

Wow you did very well. Good eye. I would just keep the basket for serving mints or candies. You got some nice jewelry too. Congrats

Just a quick update on the Sterling Bride Basket - 19 ounces.

I brought it in to a reputable dealer in my area. He gave me a price of $200. That was a scrap value price.
I brought it back home. I would hate to see it get scrapped.

I did get $136 for the 18k gold chain that I only paid a dollar for it, so I was happy with that.
All together with other gold pieces I had and Sterling scrap, I made $710 today.

I am wondering what you guys think. Was $200 a fair price for the bride basket?
