Sterling Bottle Opener

I picked up a sterling bottle opener for $22. Not sure if I paid too much for it.
I really like the details on it, plus it's double sided. It appears to be solid sterling not weighted.
It weighs 2.5 oz and measures 3.75" long.
Hallmarked on side reads - " Peru-Plata Esterlina Amano - MEK "

Does anyone know how old this could be?
Could it be solid sterling?

I'm no expert, but the metal all looks uniform. I'd say it's all silver.

Wouldn't sterling be too soft to use as anything other than the handle? I don't know that I've seen a 100% solid sterling bottle opener. The opener is usually stainless. However, seems there is one place that makes them and it is Peru! lol

The more I look at the patina the more I think the whole opener is sterling. I even tried the "smell test" to see if the opener part smells like silver and it does. Maybe it's for ornamental and not made for use. I don't know.
I wonder how old it is.?

Yeah, and if you look at the flat part of the opener, it's ate up some. Using stainless for that piece probably would have made it a bit more durable.

Yeah, that's why I had to look it up. It's the first solid sterling opener I've ever seen. But Peru does make some nice and sometimes interesting tourist type silver items. I have a small sterling knife made in Peru.

I'd say it's a silver ingot in the shape of a bottle opener. Looks all silver to me. I would expect the tool end to be of stainless steel, but it looks like all silver in this case. Good score. Age I'm guessing 40s - 50s ??
