sterling piece found on old fort site

found this odd piece on a old fort site.it has a floral design aroundthe bottom anda raised beaded design around the top.the base reads sterling2365 witha small anchor stamped above it with2 other smaller stamps on each side of the anchor i am unable to make out.it is cylinder in shape maybe a couple inches tall and a inch around.any ideas?

You just have to figure out how to crop the image so it's just a close up of the item.

NOt just the UK, its the caes that are called Vesta's, google 'vesta case' - proper name for them.

Here's a bit of history on the terms 'vesta' and 'match'
These pocket-sized cases for carrying matches took their name from 'Vesta', the Roman Goddess of the hearth and home. A 'match' was known as a 'vesta' up until the twentieth century when 'match' became the favoured term.
