Heres the clad and junk I found on the last two times I went out. I think the plastic jack or the Mardigras beads were the best finds here ( Mardigras here we come ) Still waitin to find a silver coin or one that's really old. Haven't even found a wheatie yet. I'm still new at this and still trying to learn my detector, I'll post the better finds once I find em. :icon_scratch:

Location is everything. You need to find a place and study the history of the area that is old. There has to be some place in Florence, SC. that is old. :icon_sunny:

Take your time, pick your location, swing carefully, and dig everything that beeps. The silver will be there! Good luck, and never give up!

Ya I know there should be lots of good stuff here is SC, I know theres alot of history here. I'm still new to this and not to good at the whole research thing yet. Not giving up thats for sure. :)

Oh and on the pills I took them last night, maybe thats why I'm not feeling so well :tard: lol just joking

I think I can use those pills, the way I feel today! Here is a link that can help you with your research: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/browse/ListSome.php?category=Maps Enter in your search term, starting with most specific (nearby city)and see what happens. if you don't get results, broaden the term, to county, or state. There are dozens of online maps for your area.

Topographic maps are good as well. Try http://www.terraserver.microsoft.com

You can also use Google earth to find potential spots. I used it and found a spot that looked good behind some homes. It looked like an old foundation. I found my first colonial, a few Indian Heads and a Liberty Head Nickel along with some other relics at the site.

When you really get rolling you can overlay the old maps on Google Earth and put push pins where the old homesites and mills were. Then just remove the overlay and you have potential great sites. I used this technique last week and found the 1875 Indian Head in my avatar.

Keep in mind that metal detecting is luck. You can (almost) never know what is in the ground beforehand. The only thing you can do is research, which will increase your odds.

Good luck!

Neil
