Hi Folks,
Went for a hunt today. I happened upon this beautiful stone that is definitely worked. It has a small groove and different wear. A band approximately a half inch wide that goes around entire piece. It is hard to notice different coloration where band was together with the groove, but it is there. The non cutting edge, or hammer side seems to be beat up a bit, but shows true beveling.

Any thoughts in the piece.
Also, found 3 broken quartz and one near full Brewerton slash Dalton look alike made of Argillite. Very poor shape but you can see.

Their are also two pics of a Rock with a small dimple in the middle. It fits perfect into my hand. Would that be used as a backing rock on perhaps a bow drill?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks

I took a look at the Brewerton/Dalton piece (I’m not sure about either ID). It appears to me to be a small flake knife with a scribe-like graver feature.
I can’t help much with the hard stone items. I’d like to see some quality photos of the piece you call a Bow Drill Bearing. That’s unusual.

I cannot see the groove around the first rock. If around the long axis, might be grooved weight. If around the short axis, might be hammerstone. (Or it could still be a grooved weight). But most mauls, or grooved hammerstones, would be far larger than that small rock. Most hammers were hand held anyway, both small and very large cobbles. So I’m not sure what that rock is.

As far as the argillite point, it would fit as a Brewerton Eared Triangle. Might have been another ear at damaged corner, but single eared Brewerton triangles are also very common. Just a guess, that would likely be the most common possibility.

Pitted rock could be an anvil stone, though battering would usually not create such a non battered looking hole. Could also be a pitted hammerstone if it shows battering on the edges....

Here are some close ups. Definitely battering on edges. I did see somewhere hammerstones use to be pitted to allow the thump to act as an axis to pivot tool around easily.
Anyway. Thanks
I know the groove isn't visble buy camera. I'm telling you there is a shallow groove all the way around you can feel by touch. Either way. Thank you.

Also, found this Argillite Drill Today.

Thanks Guys.
