I know you did, but I thought maybe someone else may have something to add concerning valuation. I appreciate your input. Just wanted to try the correct forum. Thanks.

Definitely a Full Grooved Axe. As far as value, Axes just don't go as high as you think they would. I have seen Axes very similar to that one go for $50.00 to $100.00 at auctions and I bought one at a show last year that was just a little smaller than that one for $25.00.

He would be better off keeping it since he's not going to get rich selling it.

If he doesn't want to get rich selling it, have him send it to me.
Seriously ,nice find.

As a member of the "can't seem to find even a small broken piece of an axe" club I can say I am truly jealous.

I agree with GL.I've only found bits n pieces of axes & celts although i did find a celt with just about 1/4 of the top missing.

Killer find congrats...

ditto

That's neat! I'd like to see some more photos from different angles. Thanks. Monty

I agree with Dorkfish on The Value. It doesn't seem fair sometimes that most axes don't go for much money. I mean they spent a lot of time making these Things. I wonder how many points they could Knapp out in the time it took to make one decent axe??? I have found only three in all of my hunting, and they are a thrill to look down and see. Here is one that I found last March 08, it is made of Hematite. Its not worth much, but its dern near priceless to me. I know people that hunt points their whole lives(finding hundreds and hundreds of arrowheads) and never find a thing made of hardstone, except for maybe crude hammerstones and things like that. So it was a really good find for your buddy. John
