I found this in a bottle dump in Ohio near Buckeye lake .Is it a small butter churn ? There is a small hole through it near the top lip that almost looks like it was ment to be there .

My opinion is that it is a canning crock.The recess around the top is for a lid that would be waxed in to preserve the food inside.It is too small to be a churn.The hole on the side at the top appears to be a flaw(bubble) that opened up.
