Anyone ever see anything like this? Why do you think its like this?

I believe its silver. It came up on my detector as dime. The diameter is a bit bigger than a new dime. :-\

It's what you said it was a mercury dime. You can see the L were Liberty is on a mercury dime and the chin and bottom of the neck. Like VPR says fire damage.
