I found this with my Pioneer 101. It gave a broken tone. At first I thought it to be a chunck of rusty metal. A magnet will NOT stick to it. The surface has a rough sandpaper like texture. It has dark brownish spots or streaks ans some shiny crystal like specs all throughout. It had 2 fractures and a small chunk broke off the smaller fracture. It is heavier than a normal rock of its size and weighs 4.85 ounces.

I'm not for sure but it looks like Iron rock. My place is covered with it. drives the detector nuts.

Thanks, your probaly right. We don't have alot of that here, first one I have come across. I live in North West PA, if that helps anyone. is this what detectorists call hot rock? It was found near the bank of a creek, most of the other rock there is slate and most other are those flat grey looking rocks. This one was definatly out of place.

Break up a fresh surface and get us a new pic.. The weathered surface doesn't help very much... :)
