🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Strange rock??

Anybody know what kind of rock this is? I found this in the mazon creek in Morris I’ll. Looking for fern fossils.

looks to be maybe be a garnet in there? Just going off the shape of that thing and some garnets i have seen that are similar. not sure about the host rock
