So I found what appears to be a penny. It has Lincoln and the memorial on the back. Never seen anything like it.

If it is from the years of a zinc penny I would say the copper coating is gone and that is the zinc core of the coin. How it got that way is beyond me though.
Just a crusty zinc cent. Keep detecting and you will find thousands more.....
