Figured I'd post some of the finds from the last couple days because there was some cool stuff in there. The two hunts were at both an older wooded ara that has produced a few IH's and V nickles in the past and a abandoned pay-to-swim lake that I have hunted several times in the past (most recently with Mirage) and have pulled a few silver coins from. Nearest I can tell the lake operated from the 1950's ish to maybe the late 1960s. I went back there yesterday after work and in about an hour got a half dozen wheats, a nice (but very thin) silver ring, a silver St. Christopher medal, a small silver chain and a well worn 37 Merc. I also found a cool measured shot glass, a few bullets and the "V-8" insignia from a car, an old-looking baseball medallion and a few small pc. of jewelry (the wreath earring is 10K)
The finds from the old woods includes two old buckles (one dated 1907), a harmonica reed, two more religious medals, a flat back button that appears quite old and the mystery item of the day, the curved heavy item with the ball-shape on the end. It obviously connected to a shaft of some sort. My guess is that it's a horn-cover for a bull (??)
Your ideas on that one are appreciated.
Anyways...here's the pics!

Dan, those are some nice finds...my kinda stuff "cool junque". ;D ;D

That's an assume display of the very nice assortment of finds that you found. I think it looks like a handle for something like a dustpan, whisk broom, pot or some along those lines.

Just a guess, and thanks for posting such quality photos.

HH and Good Luck.

Huh....wish I knew why the pics look so small...I could swear I used the same compression I usually do...

Oh, now I see how it could be a bull horn cover. I agree, it's looks like it would fit a bull horn perfectly. The green pointer pin must he set in a hole that is drilled into the horn, and the black pointer is where a screw is fastened.

What a neat find.

HH

Cool Finds,

Your "Bull Horn Cover" is actually the brass knob from a Hame. Part of the collar assembly of horse harness. Work harnesses were just wood and iron, but for dressier driving they used brass knobbed hames.

Nice assortment of finds, Dan. Good hunting.

Danimal,

neat group of finds.

Sounds, and looks, like you have been
having a good time. ;D

Thanks for posting.

Thanks everyone for helping ID the hame knob.

Nick.....when do I get the invite for dinner? That last dish with the roasted almonds looked incredible...I LOVE roasted almonds. The texture with pasta would be great.

As to the Merc...it's wild how often I am finding Mercs this year (and most have not been from the 'Berg). They seem to outnumber silver Rosies by far. I quit keeping a tally of my finds (silver-wise...etc) as it kinda detracted from the thrill. Kinda like when I first put a computer on my mountain bike (WHAT???I am hauling ASS on this trail and I only averaged 12 mph?) When I kept coin counts I placed too much importance on results. Now that I just throw em in a canister (if they are a year I need or mint I need they go into a display case) I seem to be more relaxed and enjoy the day more.
Same when I was really into bass fishing. I tried tournament fishing for about 3 yrs and, while I did quite well, it always felt to me like I should be out fishing right at the very time we would be hauling ass WOT back for the weigh in.
It's not the destination it's the journey. :)
It's not the arrow it's the Indian. ;)

I agree. We have a couple (I did not dig them up) and a little brass polish and they shine like new. Really sharp for display. Great group of finds!
