Hey everyone. Haven’t been out detecting too much until about a few days ago. My friend and I went out looking for a site and while doing so stumbled across what looked like a mill foundation or an old bridge made of stone. There was a slight hill and we decided to venture up to it. Up on the hill was a really early cellar holes with a massive tree growing out of it. We started swinging and got a button or two. Didn’t seem like the place was loaded with signals. I went right on the lip of the cellar and got a good signal, dug down and got a copper. I wiped it off to see my first ever NJ copper, found here in Northern Massachusetts. Not only was it my first as previously mentioned but the condition was absolutely phenomenal as well. I’m going to do a little work on it, but there is some crust in the reverse ill try to take off with some ver my very light work with a tooth pick.
(And I’m sure the photos will post sideways as always)...

That's a stunner, once in a blue moon to find a dug copper in that kind of condition, and a great state coin to add to the collection. Congrats from a fellow Mass hunter HH, still waiting for the day we run into one another out there.

BTW, I've found with photos on TNet if you edit your photo in any way before posting, such as cropping or adjusting, they will post correctly. Not sure why, something about editing tools correct the position. Congrats again on a very nice colonial copper!

Perhaps one day! And thank you for the tip, it's been driving crazy when it comes to posting images!

Stunning is right! Congrats on a beautiful copper!

Great Find There!! Don in South Jersey is really good at attributing Jerseys. Congratulations:icon_thumright:

Yes, congrats on your first and nice to see one so easily to attribute the variety, as stated above it is a 1787 Maris 28-L, Rarity 3, Scarce BUT in my 17 year running NJ Circulation Study it is only the 4th one of that variety reported found! So that is a good one in my opinion. Also the first one of that variety from Mass......... Please either PM me or say here the county found in so I can enter it into the database. Thanks!

Awesome Save, It is a beautiful Coin.

Beautiful NJ copper. Congrats and thank you for sharing the pic and story with us!

While I like the ease of digging farmfields, the fertilizer wreaks havoc with coppers. Digging in the woods is harder work and its nice to see a reward for that extra effort. I'd be inclined to return and maybe even move some soil for deeper signals and non-metallic relics.

I absolutely agree. I have gotten some torched coppers from the woods, however nearly all coppers from the fields have plow marks on them. A few times I have gotten some good ones, but like you said the fertilizer really eats away at them. I find woods sites to be a lot more exciting, more of an adventure.
