I have been primaraly a cent and nickel hunter through my coin hunting career with the occational half box here and there. Over the past 2 months I have picked up 5 dime boxes "Brinks" to attempt to start filling my dime book with some silver dates. All 5 boxes have come up empty:BangHead:. I've pulled about 15 2009's :icon_thumright: but other than that I have found nothing significant. How is everyone else doing on dimes, and does anyone have any luck with Brinks "clear wrapper" boxes?

Thanks for the input

Question for the veterans: Is it time for the "cigar box" photo?

OP: There are plenty of silver in the clear plastic rolls. 5 boxes is hardly a large enough sample size.

It's hit or miss. The next 5 you get might be loaded. Just gotta keep at 'em.

There is never a wrong time for that picture.

If they are 5 random boxes spread out over days/weeks then it's to early to panic.

These were mostly found hunting the clear Brinks rolls. This picture is a bit old. I need to get around to updating some of the silver p0rn. Not going to happen anytime soon as long as it is summer and I live a few minutes from the beach. Actually, it doesn't matter what season.

That pic never gets old. Brinks does not have a strong presence in my area but I haven't found any silver yet from the few rolls I find

I would love for somebody to post a solid box of 90% silver dimes... that is one of my goals that will probrably NEVER come close to being accomplished, but you just never know.. 3 years and 3 rolls into the box :P

what is important about 2009 dimes?

I love that pic too. What Brinks, clear-wrapped rolls I've been able to search have been great! And you can search a box in 5 minutes and dump the rejects anywhere. Those clear-wrapped rolls are the only way to search dimes. (Tho CWRs will give up a big collection dump occasionally, and sometimes my per roll average is a little better with them vs boxes. More work however.)

Where I search, if I receive a Brink's dime box mixed in with my order, I politlely ask if I can exchange it for a normal box. Brinks dime relsults may vary in other locations.

Saw a video on YouTube where Brinks receives coins from Coinstar machines which usually rejects silver. I would imagine if you live in a metro area and have a Brinks facility near by your box results may be poor.

I have had very good luck with the clear wrappers. No problems from what I can see and I love searching through them since they're a lot easier to get through on a quick hunt.

I think you might've said at another time when you posted that picture, but how many do you have in those and how many of each do you have (FDRs, Mercs, Barbers, etc.)?

I've never counted. The picture is a few years old so there are more than what you see. I've never sold any dimes. It is always just one for the pile. In some cases, I'm quite lazy and just toss the silver in a drawer, on the desk, etc. I can CRH my room and find silver that I never knew I had. In the photo, the one tube showing the Barber is just Barbers. The other horizontal tubes are Mercs. The vertical tubes are FDRs. I have Savings Booklets with Mercs. Additional rolls of Mercs and FDRs that were rolled in paper in case I ever do want to sell a roll, I already have it rolled.

Were those tubes originally meant for cigars? Or are they from something else?
