Suit from 1864 what is it's value and does it look familar ☺☺?

My brother has a flea market and someone brought this suit in with some stuff. It has a note in the pocket which i am posting. I would like to find out if you think it's that old? What style is it. Or what name it might be. And most important it's approx value (accepting offers). Thanks and may the will of the hunt be with you.

Re: suit from 1864 what is it's value and does it look familar?

I don't know that much about civil war period clothing but if the shoulders are cut at an angle and not straight then as far as I know it's civil war period. I'm not sure when they started cutting the shoulders straight. sorry I can't be of more help on this.

From what I can see and what little I know the suit looks right to be from that period but I just don't know the clothing that well. Hopefully someone will see it who knows more than I do.

I don't know anything about that type of button. A lady was asking me about them the other day. I think she called them cloth patch shanks. I know the military stuff pretty good but am dumber than dirt on the civilian stuff. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I re-sized, and played with the picture color a little.

You've got the White Balance on your camera manually set to Flourescent, but I am guessing that you are shooting under regular incandescent light (also known as tungsten). That will make the images look red. Set the white balance to "Auto" if you don't know how to properly match it your lighting, and it should be much better.

The "Solide" backmark is not one I have seen on buttons, but I have seen it on mid-1800s suspender clips and fasteners.

Cool piece!

The color tint to things in a photograph depend on the temperature of the lighting. Tungsten looks yellow, fluorescent looks green, etc. You can try to adjust your camera to give you the "right" color but that is usually not very efficient. The best way I have found to handle the problem is to place something in the photograph that has a color easy to "match." The best little object I have found is a black and white "Ying and Yang" button. Once you have the picture in your computer, you will need a program - like iPhoto on Mac - that will allow you to adjust the Temperature, Saturation, Exposure, Contrast, Tint, etc. You can use these controls to make the white white and the black black. It is not as easy as you would think. If you find that you can't do it, it means the photo is so far "Off" that is really cannot be corrected and you need to take another one. Usually in brighter light. Once you have the white and black done, the color of the object in the should be "spot on." You can then crop out the button as you no longer need to see it.

So use the controls on your camera if you have them but having sufficient light in the beginning and the ability to control the parameters after it is uploaded to your computer is the best of all worlds.

And last but not least. Don't use a white background!!!

WTF? This is not a military suit. Nor are the buttons military related.

Check out his other posts and you'll see that he doesn't mean his rantings to be funny.

Didn't think about that. Sorry. I just know that sometimes we try to say something funny and it just doesn't work.

My bad.

Actually I DO have a better idea about these buttons. They were lost when the French went to war with the Aztecs over the rights to John Swift's Silver Mine. :laughing7:
