Spending a couple weeks down at wife's family farm in Gates county NC so getting in some swings. The home farm has been in existence since late 1700's. Same place I found my 1773 Virginia half pence and some British made gilded buttons.
I went out yesterday with my new Vortex V9 and found this cool hook about 8" down right in the front yard. Looks to be maybe a tack hook. It's cast-iron. Also found a large copper unfortunately really ganked up so haven't been able to get a date.
More to come !

Unique . I bet it is animal related

Very nice !

Great spot and you will always be welcome here! The hook does look like it was fastened to a a surface, although it has more screw holes for mounting than it really needs. Maybe they are holes for rivets to fasten it to leather harness? Just speculating.

Any chance of getting your coil under at least a part of the floor boards of that old kitchen?

It's been moved multiple times since my wife's grandfather built the existing farmhouse in 1917
I have an idea on where it may have been from looking at the 1837 survey the original family had done. I'm pretty sure on where original house was so assuming kitchen wasn't very far away

I agree. Probably rivet holes for mounting to leather.

I was thinking It could be on either attached either to leather or possibly wood. Then chains into the hooks so different lenghts could be used
