A brisk morning for pingin, I went to a site that is mostly late 1700's era stuff from previous hunts. The Electric company just recently chewed up most of the underbrush near a cellarhole that is smack dab under those wires. BTW, the Explorer has not been affected by the power lines whatsoever. :)

Under the powerline I got two buttons, one a treble gilt base metal type button and one button that is so plain, it looks like a worn down coin, but is not.

Also got a nice conditioned iron ring and finished up the hunt with the top half of an old spoon, I was hoping it had the Hallmark on it, and after getting home and cleaning it, yes, it does have a Hallmark of +C&S+.

I knew that was familiar and looked at my spoon collection and have an identical hallmarked spoon, much easier to read and also a complete spoon.

If anyone know the rough date of manufacture of these C&S spoons, the knowledge would be appreciated.

I attached a couple photos of the powerline area I hunted and a nearby long gone early 1800's bridge, that the timbers can be seen in the cedar stained waters.....

pretty cool stuff! if you didnt already know that a cellar hole had been there, you would never know! nice bit of research on that one!

Nice finds out there. Cellar hole areas are a ton of fun to hunt. Have you been able to find the trail leading to and from that old bridge? I have a minelab and mine is good near the power lines too.

Quite easy to find the trail, it is a causeway next to an early canal, but the road is solid slag, iron hits from the iron furnace. :(

We found the cellarhole many years ago, it is just a depression in the ground about 8 feet across and maybe 3 feet deep.
The cabin was overlooking a small bluff that led down to a river, a perfect location for a homestead.

The photo of water is a stream and the remains of a 1800 era bridge, or cordory road, not sure which, I assume a bridge since it was dam breast there.

Nice relic too,,,

D,

nice group of artifacts.

Did you know of the cellarhole prior to the
power company clearing the area; or did you
find it because of their operations?

Thanks for posting. Enjoyed the
photos.
