Pretty much got skunked Saturday morning, only digging an old brass square nail, and a most likely modern 2 piece button.

Went back to the new permission this morning.
Decided to give it another shot, go real slow, use the 9" coil, and work some outer perimeter areas where I initially thought I wouldn't find anything.

My second target I dug was another Spanish half real. I could have dug nothing else the rest of the morning, and still have been happy.
Shortly after the Cob, I dig a sterling butter/serving knife not far away.
After a bit I moved over near where the script I came from and while moving very slow, i started hearing some faint whispers, and began digging lead and flat buttons.

Not bad for a little over 3.5 hours, and getting pretty much skunked the day prior, at the same site. It sure pays to be persistant. :unhappysmiley:

I haven't had the time to clean anything up much, so I thought I would show you guys some dirty pics this time.

The cob weighs 1.8grams, which would put it slightly over-weight. I think this may be a Ptosi, and I don't know how to date it. Any help would be appreciated. All of my other cobs were Mexico City mint, so I'm pretty excited about this one. This one was solid black.

These are yesterdays finds. A brass nail and a button.
I think the 2 piece is modern/civilian, and it appears to have an iron back. Anyone ever seen this one.

UPDATE: Decided to get a better pic of the buttons, backmarks, and Sterling hallmark.
The 2 larger buttons are the same with same backmark. Only one has most of the gilt remaining.
Also cleaned up the ear-ring, and I believe it is silver.

what kind of site was it and what is it today?

Wow...what a day! Congratulations on all of those great finds!
Thanks Silver
Upon further review, I may be looking at an "L" mintmark in the upper left and lower right areas of the 'tic-tac-toe'.
If that be true, as I now suspect, the coin would be from Lima, not Potosi.
Just giving you my best guess--from worn out eyes.
Don...
Thanks Don. It does look like an L
Yep, thats Lima. I see 3 L's. Cant make out the assayer. Plus that cross has the thicker Lima look. But I dont have a single dug Lima so i am damn impressed. You are now the cob king. lol
Thanks GW, but I'm afraid you earned that title by digging that big 8R. It does look like an L.
That's not just a Spanish silver - it's another freakin' cob!! I've only dug two in my life and you have two in one week. Keep pounding that site - it's a special one. Any idea about the early history?
Thanks Screwy. I was being modest in my title. Seems Spanish silver was the choice currency.
Wayda stay hot man. Love the cob, especially with the "00" date. Go dig another one ....
Thanks Bill. Headed back out again soon. I hope to...
Your having too much fun! Congrats on the latest addition to keeper drawer.
Thanks Pepper.
You are crushing the Spanish silver lately! Congrats on another very awesome hunt
Thanks J.

Those cobs are just spectacular sir!

You make my head hurt.

Congrats on the finding the cob. Lots of detail on that coin - full date, etc.

Forgot, I have seen that modern blazer button before.
