Sunday's digs including a sweet Masonic relic

I got out for a few hours on Sunday just because I needed to get out and dig some holes. I hit a spot that I have probably been to over 30 times in the last 10 years, but I always find something there and it has produced a number of nice military related relics. There were three house sites in this pasture, each very trashy, so by slowing down and approaching from different angles, you can pick up things that you might have walked over previously. Fortunately I was able to find a beautiful Masonic suspender clip in perfect condition this time. I also got an GS eagle button, three other flat buttons, a very corroded V nickel, some other odds and ends and a whatzit. The whatzit measures 1.75 x 1.25. It is the item that is shaped like a “&” below. Someone on a Facebook forums said it was from an old Sho Nuff clamp, but I couldn’t find a picture of one of those clamps on the internet.

That's a nice one Steve. I found one a few season's ago. It has a pat date of 1872 on it. Last yr my brother found a solid gold locket with the mason symbol engraved on it. I love masonic items.

I have seen some gold Masonic items posted before. I would love to find some Freemason gold. I found this at the place I took you a couple years ago, right under those trees where you found all those buttons.

Anything Masonic is awesome in my book Steve. Such an interesting and mysterious history. Great find bud

Congrats Steve on some real nice finds

The good sites are always worth another look, but one would think that after 29 hunts you would have cleaned it ?

Gratts on the masonic item.

Steve, how your wrist that you had surgery on holding up? HH, Q.

You would think that Rick, but the site kind of progressed in a way that allowed it to stay alive for a long time. Initially, I hunted the first house site because it was obvious due to a pile of rocks and bricks with trees growing out of it. After a few visits, finds petered out and I moved on to other places. Then I got a new machine (F-75) and the original house site came alive again. In the last two years, I have found two other house sites in the pasture that had no obvious physical markers. So between the three hotspots, and all the iron you need to pick through, the site will never be hunted out.

Quindy, the left one that I had surgery on a couple months ago is great. But the right one that I had surgery on last year has been sore lately. But I am good for normal digging activities. Thanks for asking :icon_thumright:
