Found at about 5" and was 77 on my ATP. It still has its shank intact and clearly says Treble Gilt and Orange on the back. Very happy!

Congrats on the old military button. Nice find.

That sure is a beauty of a button, nice digs. How many stars are on the button.

I ran across this description off a site, not sure if your able to get the maker of the back-RARE EARLY 1800's 1 PIECE U.S. NAVAL NAVY BUTTON by I. MOORE & CO. Very nice save, congrats.

Its really hard to tell how many stars but I am pretty sure its 16 of them. I can't tell much on the eagle detail.

Welcome to tnet! Very nice military button. Love finding old military buttons. Congrats!

Pretty sure this is it. In the right light you can catch a sparkle of gilt

That's a very cool find. If you want to, it will probably clean up very nice too. WTG!

How should I clean it? Will never sell it so not worried about its $$$. Would love to be able to see more detail as o know it's there

You can search Tnets older posts for cleaning techniques. There are tons of them, mine can get pretty aggressive, that's not for everyone.
The least you can try are a soapy bath and toothbrush cleaning. I also have an ultrasonic cleaner, they really work to get every bit of dirt out of every nook and cranny, but then your pc. may feel rough to the touch. a little paste wax to preserve the metal will smooth it back out again.
You can get the US cleaners pretty inexpensively online, and I use mine all the time on finds, so it's worth it. They will not remove corrosion however, just the dirt.
Anything more than that can be aggressive...

Would love to see it cleaned up. Interested to see just how similar it is to the one I found. Mine doesn't have a backmark.20150225_131228-1.webp

Ultrasonic cleaning did an amazing job! $30 Amazon!
