✅ SOLVED Sure looks like a butt plate

Found this today, it’s brass and perfect size to be a butt plate, also the break at the top would make sense where it would turn and cap the stock. But… never seen a butt plate with a bunch of square holes and it’s a little flat

My search is crap.

Anyways , here's a repro N.W, Tradegun.
Caught my eye for it's hole positioning vs others. It's more similar to your piece.
And the builder went with square nails. As early ones were hand forged.

Well there you go haha I searched butt plate several ways and they all had a couple big holes… I’ll have to look closer into northwest trade guns

Found this picture, it’s similar and found in a similar context… both sites are in se Kansas near the same river different counties though. And of course releventchair was the first to find an exact match

An update for any who found similar things, or are curious… according to one of my books it’s likely a Barnett northwest gun.
