Found this today, it’s brass and perfect size to be a butt plate, also the break at the top would make sense where it would turn and cap the stock. But… never seen a butt plate with a bunch of square holes and it’s a little flat

I'd say that's a trade gun buttplate, nice!

Found this picture, it’s similar and found in a similar context… both sites are in se Kansas near the same river different counties though. And of course releventchair was the first to find an exact match
