Surf Box for my wife's GT

Treasure_Hunter....I would have bought the waterproofed GT,but I saw the ad a couple of hours too late...after a few days of crying in my beer,because you beat me to the punch, I decided I would scratch build a box so my wife could use her GT in the water with me... NOT!..really I want to use the GT in the water and see how it compares to the Excal..my belief is the GT will be a more sensitive/deeper water machine ...her GT also has a Intruder S12 coil.
below I posted a few pics ...I have also pressure tested the case to an equivalency of 30 ft..I was lucky a 25 yr old set of Garrett Sea Hunter waterproof headphones works well with the GT...I am still envious of your bargain, I've got close to $280 in plastic and parts,not counting my time...you made out like a bandit......Rdi

That is really impressive. I wish that I had the talent to do those types of things. I once did but my lack of patience and determination in my old age have eroded my drive to take on such a project any longer. Great work. Hope you find lots of gold!

RDi, I know I lucked out on getting my WP sovereign, I knew the worth of what it had before he did the water proofing and your cost and his for the water proofing are very close to each other.

Did you hard wire the coil and head phones into the unit? How do you mount it to your waist?

Mine has a bracket on the side and came with a divers belt to support the unit on my waist. I wasn't happy with the way it felt, it came loose twice in the surf so I looked for a way to mount it with a harness.

I intall T-1 systems and one of the customers I installed for welds farm and industrial parts. I had them make me 2 aluminum brackets 4 inches long, 1 inch wide and 1/2 inch thick to mount on 2 sides of the box to attach a shoulder harness and it came out perfectly. The weight is distributed between my waist and shoulders, it is very comfortable and very secure.

They charged me a total of $13 to make both.

The top of the bracket is above the top of the box, but about 3/4 inch away from the box to protect it from scratches from harness clips.

Treasure_Hunter.....looks like you have come up with a nice mounting system supporting the weight throughout your upper body..good idea...No i did not hard wire either the coil or headphones..used a split bulkhead fitting for the coil (the white thing on the bottom of the case in the pic)...you just take out four screws, pop out the split rubber plug, pull coil cable though the slit in the rubber plug, put on a different coil or remove Sov from the box, reconnect coil and use as a land machine.... I used Garrett headphone connectors so i can remove headphones and inside is a phono jack which plugs into the Sov...

Treasure_Hunter my wife and I are in the middle of making a padded bag with belt loops so she can hip mount the detector and clips so i can chest mount it to my harness...all my detectors have padded bags for protection and can be hip or chest mounted.......Rdi

I would be interested in seeing pic of the bag when you make it.

We need to meet up some time and do a water hunt together with the Sovereigns.

I am thining of maybe another hunt to St Pete Beach or Clearwater this weekend if I can get one of my partners to go and share gas.

Are you going to attend the GSBSO this year at Daytona?
