Surf Treasure Hunters

Dear fellow hunters;
I am looking for more info on surf treasure hunting.
I just choose this specific zone to focus on, looks like this is the
real treasure vault as books said!!! well. I live
on a island in the Caribbean, full of beaches crowded of tourist
every year
(more than 1 million a year )...and also a lot of archeological &
historical places like clear
water wells, taino ritual caves, Colony ruins, Pirate caves,
etc...so if there?s some info, suggestions or a specific group that
you guys can recommend me i will be very glad for that wonderful
help. I just want to know
more about techniques, procedures, books to read and equipment to
test, and also, if possible, to meet and be in contact with other
fellow surf treasure hunters from all over.

I got a brand new Tesoro
Tiger shark, (and i will use a simple 50 cubic feet tank with a old
back pack, regulator/console/computer..no octupus~!! Blunt knife &
Hand scoop ).... considering that i will just dive no more than 4 -
5 feet i feel is needless to be bulky of equipment. I also prepare
a nice & tight closure mesh bag for collecting the pieces.

It also be very interesting in know how you take care of your
detector before and after each dive.

Well, i hope some of you can spend some your precious time in giving
me some light into this old childhood dream that i am about to
practicing for many many years to come.

Sincerely,

Welcome to the board!

I've not had the privledge of doing the kind of detecting that you are asking about -- but I wish you the best of luck! I just bought a land based detector and am looking forward to using it when it thaws and when I travel. I'm also planning on getting certified for Scuba this year and hope to do some underwater detecting too.

Good luck!

Hi,

I'm new to this hobby as well, but I can tell you this bit of advice that was recently shared with me on this very forum:

Use the search window above! type in your specific topic, for example: "books" (included the quotes). This will help you to bring up other questions from members in the past. You can get pretty much all the answers to your questions in this manner.

Another forum member told me this information on "searching" the site and it really helped me out. He suggested that most of the older forum members wouldn't reply to a post like yours because they've answered it many times before and just don't want to do all the typing again :-) Makes sense if you think about it.

Anyhow, good luck in your hunting and good luck in searching this site for answers.

mino007,
sounds like you have the right equipment to do some surf detecting,as far as taking care of your detector after use in salt water, just wash it off with fresh water after each use, check the seals or O-rings an make sure you have no sand in them, clean the O-ring with rubbing alcohol, and use silicone based grease on it,dont use vasaline,it will make the ring fall apart or get brittle.1 grain of sand will cut a O-ring in half at any depth below 5 feet and you dont want any leaks.good luck an welcome to the forum.
