You'll get used to it with practice. That reading is only an estimation for a coin sized target. Surface coins and deeper larger targets (pop can) could read 2". I recommend practising judging the size of the target when pinpointing. If you still get a solid reading 5+ inches away from center or 5+ inches above the target, it could a larger deeper item. A coins reading will mostly fall off only an inch or two away. Practice will teach you this pretty quickly. HH

The accurate of the depth reading is proportional to your accuracy at pinpointing. If you get the coil directly over the target it will give a more accurate depth reading and target ID. Of course there are other factors like the orientation of the target (how much it is tilted) etc.
 

Thanks guys, come to think of it I was not sure that the pin point mode was to be utilized when checking for the depth of the target but it has been very accurate. I would get a good hit and check the depth, then pin point and dig to the original depth not the pin point depth.....back to practice....
