Telescope, microscope, camera lens???

Found this 6" down near the road in front of a 200 year old home. It is very heavy for it's size and has two lenses. Any thoughts? Rich.

Surveyors lens? See if you can spot any markings after a thorough rinse.

Jeffro, No visible markings but a surveyors lens to a transit makes sense, it was a couple feet from the road. Rich.

When you look through it, is the image you see inverted or not?

Looks extremely similar to brass "naval binoculars" that I used to have. I will do a search.
