My friend and I went to a beach where there should be some stuff. There was some stuff: First I found a merc that wasn't too beat up by the surf. Next I found a 1910 V Nickel. I made the mistake of trying to toothpick it a little and put a hole in it! Total amateur move. Next I found pocket watch lid that looked potentially silver and rang up as an 87 on the ATMAX. When I got home I cleaned it up and was able to make out a very small .925 mark on it! We gave ourselves a time limit and just as it was time to go we started finding more coins in an eroded bank. I found a 1912 D Barber dime which always gets me psyched. He found a Canadian silver and about 2 minutes after my barber he found a barber dime too! An authority figure suddenly appeared out of nowhere... Actually he just drove up next to us and we were too excited to notice him. He was really nice but told us we weren't allowed to detect there so we were really nice back and said we'd leave. No big deal. Next spot right off the bat I found a nice little IHP that cleaned up pretty well to be an 1890. I proceeded to swing for 2 hrs and dig nothing. The day started out nice and the wind whipped up to mighty gale making it a cold hunt. It feels good to be there bundled up enjoying life looking for old stuff! It was a pretty good day and hopefully not my last hunt of 19. Time flies though!

That's a really good day in my book love those coins the water must tear those up to poke a hole through it lol Here in Mi coins get eaten by fertalizer especially pennies. Great post. Tommy

Good beach erosion!

Looks like you guys pulled some nice coins.

What was the reason that you could not metal detect there?

Yeah, IMO I wish all beaches (except dunes) were detectable. Especially those on the ocean. No damage from digging and your removing trash. Nice finds!

Looks like a great day to me!

Great day at the beach, congrats! :occasion14:

Nice beach finds, especially that Barber. I did the same thing to my first V nickel a week or so ago; live and learn, I guess. Congrats and best of luck out there.

Way to go on some wonderful old finds! Gotta love that batch of 100+ year olds. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on your finds buddy! :occasion14:
The Barber, Merc & IH are nice finds for the middle of December.

If possible, can you post a pic of the inside back of your pocket watch case.
It looks more likely that it was silver-plate on brass, of course it may just be dis-coloured from being in the water for 100 years. :icon_scratch:

Great bunch of old coins. Looks like they are in great shape given that they came off a beach. I always enjoy seeing the green patina on old IHP. Nice work.

Thanks! The IHP is the only one that was not from the beach.

Congratulations. Great hunt. I love to beach hunt when I can get there.:icon_thumright:

Thanks. It could be plated but I don't know. The back stamp under magnification read .935 and it had two hallmarks on it which make me think it's probably silver. I showed it to some experts at my club and they said it was silver.
